CASE STUDY: Velocity bootcamp is just the job for recruitment app developer

7 August 2015

A two-day ‘business bootcamp’ has given a young entrepreneur the skills she needs to grow her fledgling augmented reality powered job app – allowing people to apply for vacancies while on the move.

Sharon Oh, founder of Augmented Vacancies, was one of the first business owners to sign up to Velocity’s new series of sessions designed specifically for start-ups.

The workshops, held in Bletchley, focus on the basics of setting up in business and give advice on everything from accountancy and developing a business plan to developing your own website and using social media to market your company.

Sharon, a former University of Bedfordshire student, developed the app as part of her degree course and is now working on making it suitable for a commercial audience.

The app enables users to search for jobs by location and then apply directly via the app, by uploading a CV. Job hunters can also record a 30 second video ‘selling themselves’ to potential employers.

Sharon said: “The Velocity bootcamp was a fantastic experience and it has really helped me decide the most important things to focus on in my business.

“It was quite a small group which was great as it meant we had a lot of one-to-one time with the trainer. The other businesses on the course were lovely too and we all worked in different areas which means we can all help each other with different things in the future.

“The bootcamp has opened my eyes to what it takes to be a successful business and I feel as though I’m much better prepared now. I have my business plan written down and I know what I need to do to grow.”
