The Biztech/UCMK Bright Sparc Awards recognise and reward creativity, innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit in the development of technological solutions for products and/or services in the Milton Keynes and SEMLEP region.
If you have had a technology-based idea with a proven real world application and seen it through to the next stages of development in the last two years, the Bright Sparc Awards wants your entry.

There are categories to recognise breakthroughs in both academic and commercial settings as well as in areas of collaboration between the forward looking business community and innovation-focused universities and colleges.
Our definition of “technology” is the use of logical thought on an original innovative idea to find a solution which has an application in the business arena.

EDUCATION
Most innovative and creative student project
This award will recognise an exceptional idea that has the potential to be taken much further by more in-depth research and development. The winning project will be led by an individual or a team of students and will describe academic rigour as well as innovative and clear thinking about potential commercial applications.
Best academic research project
Award sponsored by University Campus Milton Keynes
This award will reward an exceptional and innovative idea that has the clear potential to be taken into the business arena. The project will have been subject to rigorous testing and research. The winning project will be led by an individual or a team of academics who can be students and/or researchers.
EDUCATION BUSINESS
Best academic led collaboration
Award sponsored by University Campus Milton Keynes
This award will recognise and reward an innovative idea that is being taken into the commercial arena, led by academics. The winner or winners will be able to clearly demonstrate how they have been able to identify the commercial opportunities underlying the idea. They will need to show how they identified potential commercial partners and convinced them of the idea’s potential (possibly through testimonials).
Best business led collaboration
This award will recognise and reward a business that has had an exceptional and innovative idea and is taking it to a specialist or specialists in the academic arena to test. The winner or winners will be able to clearly demonstrate the commercial applications of the original innovative idea.
BUSINESS
Best innovative use of technology for business
This award will recognise and reward a business that has within the last two years taken an exceptional and innovative idea into the real word. The winner or winners will be able to clearly demonstrate the future potential of the original innovative idea through research findings.
Best innovative technology product or service
This award will recognise and reward a great idea that has been turned into a proven success in the commercial world. The winner or winners will be able to prove the success of the technology product or service through either improved profitability or productivity.

To enter the awards you must be based in or studying in the SEMLEP Area. (The South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership) which includes the following councils: Aylesbury Vale District, Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, Cherwell District, Corby Borough, Daventry District, Kettering Borough, Luton Borough, Milton Keynes, Northampton Borough and South Northants.
