SUCCESS STORY

What’s the Drama’s route to development

30 November 2018

With 25-years’ experience working in social care, Genevieve (Gen) Shaw decided to pursue her “passion for people” by starting her own business, What’s the Drama. What’s the drama is a service for adults with both physical and learning disabilities. It aims to provide a space where people can pursue their interest in theatre, performance, dance or singing.

With the business up and running successfully, Gen wanted to know the next steps. She was ambitious to grow and develop her business but wasn’t sure how. After attending a course ran by Milton Keynes Council, Gen heard about the Growth Hub and wanted to find out if she could benefit from our support.

After looking through the wide range of free workshops available, she decided to enrol onto the 2-day Modelling Success Masterclass, ran by Jacqueline Day.

“This 2-day masterclass gave me the opportunity to take a step-back and reflect on my overall business needs. I was able to think about and update my businesses plan, discover new funding streams, as well as get a better understanding of my target audience.”

With personal development in mind, Gen also booked herself on the ‘Digital Strategy: Website and Search’ workshop: “This really taught me the importance of digital marketing! Before, I had a website, but I did not understand how important it is to keep this up-to-date.”

Since the support from the Growth Hub ‘What’s the Drama’ is going from strength to strength. Gen has taken time out of her business to focus on her pricing and business plan, making sure she is getting the most from her business.

Looking to the future, Gen is planning to expand her outreach

through other income funding streams. She is also hoping to expand the What’s the Drama team in 2019.

Any other tips for businesses looking for support?

“I would definitely recommend getting as much advice as possible before you start! The advice and workshops they offer are fantastic, the Growth Hub really understand your business’ needs and will help you find a solution to any problem.”
