Women in Tech are Making their Mark in the Midlands

11 March 2020

Support for women working in the tech industry is growing in the local area.

With only around 25% of tech jobs being held by women (Cleverism), Milton Keynes-based and female-led business, Snap Out, is proud to see growing celebration of the women in the tech community in the Midlands. They are working to build on this representation with a number of exciting events on the horizon.

The Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards are set to take place on March 12th 2020, with Snap Out, a local Market and User Research Consultancy being finalists in the Professional Services Category. This is a particularly huge cause for celebration for the company which specialises in the tech and digital sectors, and it is female-led.

Research by PWC shows that only 16% of females have “had a career in technology suggested to them”, in comparison to 33% of males (PWC, Women in Tech: Time to close the Gender Gap). As such, it is inspiring to see a local tech-focused business with a female Managing Director get recognition within the local community.

Snap Out recently supported the women in tech community in Northampton on Saturday 7th March. They were a part of the #TechWomeNN Trailblazers quiz trail to celebrate International Women’s Day.

On top of this, they will be further supporting the local community through several upcoming events related to accessibility. One of these is a webinar on “How to Design Accessibly for Everyone” in collaboration with what3words on Tuesday 14th April, at 9am. Plus, they will be running a UXMK live event on Inclusive and Accessible Design on Thursday 14th May, at 5:30pm at the Natwest Accelerator Hub in Milton Keynes with Helen Joy, sponsored by Recruitico.

Snap Out’s Managing Director, Dr Chloe Sharp said, “I’m so thrilled that we are able to be a part of and to support the local community of women in tech.

In an industry that is predominantly dominated by men, it’s great to see a growing number of women looking to get involved, and to be recognised as a female-led, tech-centric business by the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards.”
